Michalela Washington

Entrepreneur Spotlight: Michalela Washington of Haynes Custom Cups & More LLC

The Art of Intention: How Haynes Custom Cups & More Became a Luxury Lifestyle Brand

Haynes Custom Cups & More LLC is the vision of Michalela Washington, a creative force whose artistry is rooted in meaning, heritage, and a commitment to honoring personal stories. What began as a passion for crafting custom cups—especially those featuring UV DTF designs with uplifting Black girl affirmations—transformed into a luxury lifestyle brand known for bold cultural expression, storytelling, and intentional design. Michalela’s journey is a testament to the power of creativity, legacy, and self-expression.

Brand Origins & Inspiration

The seeds of Haynes Custom Cups & More were sown from Michalela’s desire to create products that not only looked beautiful but also empowered and uplifted people of color. Her earliest designs centered on affirmations of pride, beauty, and self-worth. The brand’s evolution accelerated after a pivotal TikTok Live and participation in a Master Bags class, both of which expanded her creative vision beyond cups to a full spectrum of luxury lifestyle products. Today, Haynes Custom Cups & More is celebrated for its culturally inspired collections and elevated craftsmanship, each piece anchored in deep storytelling. The moment Michalela realized her designs resonated on a deeper level was transformative. She no longer had to explain her work; people immediately felt and understood the intention behind each piece. Customers began sharing their own emotional responses and experiences, mirroring the very meanings Michalela hoped to convey. This mutual understanding and intuitive connection affirmed her creative purpose and fueled her passion to keep building.Raised in a home where creativity, care, and pride were foundational, Michalela’s approach to design is profoundly influenced by her family and heritage. Her mother made their clothes, and her parents were intentional about instilling a sense of identity and pride in their children. As a third-generation descendant of slavery, Michalela honors her ancestors by weaving their legacy into every design, ensuring each creation is a celebration of culture, resilience, and dignity.

Creative Process & Craftsmanship

Michalela’s creative process is fluid and intuitive, guided by emotion, energy, and inspiration from lived experience and ancestral influence. She does not begin with a fixed idea; instead, she lets feelings and inspiration guide her, following the creative flow until every detail aligns. Composition, color harmony, and placement are essential, but the most critical element is how the finished piece makes her feel. If it doesn’t evoke a strong emotion, she knows it isn’t finished. When deciding which cultural elements or stories to incorporate, Michalela allows each piece to guide her. Once the foundation is set, she considers whether the design calls for symbolic elements—sigils, crowns, halos, or spiritual guide animals. She trusts her instincts and knows a design is right when it gives her chills. This intuitive approach ensures every product is infused with intention and authenticity.A standout creation in her journey is a weekender bag dedicated to her mother. It was her first celestial-themed piece, featuring the color purple, her mother’s birthstone. This bag marked a turning point in Michalela’s creative evolution and remains deeply meaningful to her, symbolizing both personal growth and the enduring influence of family.

Personalization & Impact

Personalization is at the core of Haynes Custom Cups & More. Michalela believes that no two stories are the same, and she approaches each project with the goal of making it intentional and deeply connected to the customer. She takes time to understand their story, their values, and what will make a piece truly special for them and their loved ones. This commitment to meaningful personalization is what sets her brand apart. One particularly touching commission came from a coworker who had suddenly lost her brother. All the siblings were born in August, and for her birthday, Michalela designed a piece featuring two lions standing at the shoreline, gazing upward, with a third lion in the sky watching over them. The design symbolized protection, love, and an eternal connection—transforming grief into a powerful keepsake.Balancing her artistic vision with customer requests is an art in itself. Michalela always remembers that it’s the customer’s story she is honoring. Her role is to bring their vision to life with excellence, while subtly incorporating her signature style—perhaps through symbolism, a constellation, or a hidden detail—so each piece feels both personal and artistically cohesive.

Business Journey & Challenges

Building Haynes Custom Cups & More as a solo founder has come with its share of challenges. One of the greatest has been navigating the journey without many people who fully understand her vision. To overcome this, Michalela has built relationships with other like-minded entrepreneurs, creating a network of support, encouragement, and accountability. These connections have been invaluable, helping her stay resilient and focused.Staying motivated and inspired isn’t always easy, especially during tough times or creative blocks. While inspiration is a constant, motivation can waver when outside voices become overwhelming. Michalela has learned to honor her mental space by stepping back, resting, and resetting when needed. She knows that clarity and creativity return naturally when she allows herself space to breathe, rather than forcing productivity from a place of chaos. This self-awareness has become a cornerstone of her creative practice. Her advice to other creatives looking to turn their passion into a thriving business is simple yet profound: stay focused on your path and do the work. Distractions, criticism, and negativity are inevitable, but they don’t have to derail your journey. Michalela lives by the words of a pastor who once said, “Let them talk while you build.” This mantra has guided her through challenges and kept her eyes fixed on her goals.

Legacy & Looking Forward

Michalela’s vision for Haynes Custom Cups & More is to remind people to take pride in themselves, to celebrate their accomplishments, and to pursue their dreams boldly—even when others doubt them. She wants her brand to inspire confidence and a sense of inherent greatness, especially among those who may not always see themselves reflected in luxury spaces.Looking ahead, Michalela is excited to launch new collections for men and children, ensuring they embody the same regal energy and craftsmanship as her signature Warrior Goddess collection. She is committed to thoughtful research and development, determined that every new product line upholds her standards of excellence and intentionality. In the coming years, Michalela envisions Haynes Custom Cups & More evolving into a respected artistic voice—a brand that speaks authentically for her community through design, culture, and storytelling. Her mission is to create more than just products; she aims to craft moments, memories, and statement pieces that will be cherished for generations.Haynes Custom Cups & More is more than a luxury lifestyle brand. It is a living legacy—rooted in artistry, culture, and the powerful stories that connect us all.

Lighting the Way: How Bridgette Sells’ Journey Inspired Eight6five Magazine’s Mission

For Bridgette Sells, CEO and founder of Eight6five Magazine, the belief that “everyone’s story matters” isn’t just a slogan—it’s the heartbeat of her life’s work. In a world where so many talented voices go unheard and unseen, Bridgette’s vision was clear from the start: create a platform where every artist, entrepreneur, and dreamer could be celebrated for their truth, not just their achievements.

The Spark: From Unseen to UnstoppableGrowing up in Southern California, Bridgette witnessed firsthand how easily people with extraordinary gifts could be overlooked. “I saw so many talented people around me who were overlooked, unheard, and unseen,” she recalls. “I wanted to build something that gave a voice to those who felt invisible—a platform where their talent, truth, and journey could be celebrated without judgment.”Her personal journey shaped every facet of Eight6five’s mission. Bridgette knows what it feels like to struggle, to start from nothing, and to keep pushing even when no one notices. “I’ve faced rejection, pain, and times where I felt completely alone, but those experiences made me want to be the light for others,” she shares. That light became Eight6five—a magazine built on faith, resilience, and realness. It’s more than just a publication; it’s a movement of love, hope, and recognition for anyone who dreams of being heard.

Defining Authenticity: The Soul of Eight6five Authenticity is the cornerstone of everything Bridgette and her team produce. “To me, authenticity means being real, being true to who you are, and not changing yourself to fit what the world wants you to be,” she explains. Eight6five Magazine is intentional about letting people tell their stories in their own words. “We don’t water down who someone is to fit an image. We highlight artists, entrepreneurs, and everyday people for who they really are, not just for what’s trendy.”This commitment to authenticity goes beyond the magazine’s covers and interviews—it’s woven into every post and project. Bridgette believes in asking questions that go beneath the surface and creating a safe space for vulnerability. “As long as we keep that as our focus, Eight6five will always remain authentic.

”Spotlighting Purpose and PassionWhen it comes to choosing who gets featured, Bridgette looks for more than just popularity or accolades. “I look for people who are passionate, real, and driven by purpose,” she says. Whether it’s a musician, entrepreneur, or community leader, honesty, resilience, and originality are non-negotiable. “If their story can motivate, heal, or empower even one reader, then I know it belongs in the magazine.

”Values That Guide the JourneyFaith, integrity, and purpose are the pillars that guide Bridgette’s leadership. “I lead Eight6five Magazine with faith because I believe God gave me this vision to uplift others. Integrity is important because I want to make decisions that are honest and right, even when no one is watching. Purpose drives every move I make, because without a clear purpose, there’s no real direction.”She also values authenticity, respect, and love—ensuring that every person featured is treated with dignity and honor. “This magazine isn’t just about business or media; it’s about changing lives, building confidence, and helping people be seen for who they truly are.

”Overcoming Challenges with Faith and ResilienceBuilding Eight6five Magazine from the ground up wasn’t easy. Bridgette started with limited resources and faced moments of doubt—both from others and herself. “Sometimes people don’t see your vision until it becomes real, so learning to trust myself and stay focused even when others didn’t believe was hard but necessary.”She’s also navigated burnout, juggling multiple roles as a leader, creative, and human being. “I overcame that by remembering my why, taking time to pray and reset, and surrounding myself with people who encourage me to keep going.” Each challenge has taught her resilience: “When God gives you a vision, He will give you the strength to bring it to life, no matter how many obstacles stand in your way.

”Moments That Matter: Proof of ImpactBridgette knew Eight6five was making a difference the day an artist messaged her to say that being featured gave them hope again. “They told me they were about to give up on their music because they felt like no one cared, but seeing their story in the magazine reminded them that their voice mattered.” Another time, a family was moved to tears after reading a loved one’s interview—proof that Eight6five is more than a magazine; it’s a platform that heals, uplifts, and empowers.Faith and Resilience in ActionFaith and resilience are not just buzzwords for Bridgette; they’re daily practices. “My faith reminds me that this vision is bigger than me—it’s God’s purpose working through me.” She prays before every creative session, seeking guidance to ensure her work truly touches lives. Resilience keeps her pushing forward, even on the tough days, and together, these qualities help her create a magazine that uplifts and motivates.

Advice for Creators: Don’t Give UpFor creators and entrepreneurs who are struggling, Bridgette’s advice is clear: “Don’t give up on yourself. Even when it feels like no one sees you or supports you, keep showing up for your dreams.” She encourages others to trust the process, embrace struggles as part of the journey, and surround themselves with people who believe in their vision. “Stay real, stay humble, and never let fear stop you from becoming who you’re meant to be.”

”Creativity at the CoreAs a poet and writer, Bridgette’s creativity is the soul of Eight6five. She approaches every issue like a storyteller, aiming for every interview and feature to touch hearts, not just fill pages. “My creativity influences the way we ask questions, the way we highlight people’s journeys, and the way we design each cover to reflect their truth.”Looking Ahead: A Global MovementBridgette envisions Eight6five Magazine growing into a global platform, expanding into multimedia, live events, and mentorship programs for emerging creatives. “We will continue to stand out because we’re not just a publication; we are a movement dedicated to faith, truth, creativity, and purpose.”Legacy of Courage and TruthUltimately, Bridgette hopes her legacy is one of courage, truth, and purpose. “I want the next generation to know their voices matter, their stories have power, and they don’t have to conform to make an impact.” Eight6five Magazine is proof that you can build something meaningful without compromising who you are—and that, by telling your story with honesty and boldness, you pave the way for others to do the same.PlatformsConnect with Eight6five Magazine and join the movement:

        Phatz

Phatz’s Path to Greatness: A Tale of Passion, Perseverance, and Style

Phatz, an international award-winning fashion designer and celebrity stylist, turned his life’s challenges into a remarkable journey of success and inspiration. His entry into the fashion world was deeply personal, sparked by a transformative moment in his life. “I had got sick, I found out I had kidney failure, and it made me look at things in a different light,” he shares. Revisiting a childhood passion, he decided to pursue fashion design, proving it’s never too late to follow your dreams.

Starting in 2016 with hand-sewn designs, Phatz’s early experiences shaped his creative process in profound ways. “It gave me inspiration that I could do anything,” he reflects. Despite limited resources and basic skills, he built a following and realized that learning the technical trade would elevate his craft even further. His move from Richmond, VA, to Atlanta, GA, marked a pivotal transition in his career. “Atlanta had more opportunities for fashion designers,” he explains, crediting the city’s vibrant network and events for helping him grow and connect with industry professionals.

Phatz’s mentors, Bobbie “Designbyeye” Colfield and Vivian “VDinx” Stith, played a significant role in his development as a designer. Bobbie taught him patience and precision on the Marow Machine, while Vivian guided him through creating complete garments and mastering the sewing machine. These lessons laid the foundation for his expertise and creative confidence.

Breakthrough Moments That Defined a Career

Phatz’s career trajectory skyrocketed after his debut at Miami Fashion Week in 2016. “It gave me the confidence to know that I wasn’t good enough,” he humbly admits, recalling how the experience motivated him to refine his craft. The encouragement he received solidified his belief in his potential.

Showcasing at international events like Dubai Fashion Week and Greece Fashion Week further cemented his status as a global designer. “It solidified me as an International Designer,” he says, describing these milestones as some of the most memorable experiences in his journey.

Among his many magazine features, one project stands out: styling celebrity Travis Cure from Tyler Perry’s The Oval for the cover of Upscale Magazine. “It’s the only public magazine where my work made the cover,” he shares, emphasizing the significance of this achievement in his career.

        Building the Phatz Empire

Driven by a relentless pursuit of success, Phatz has expanded his brand to include fragrances, wine, resort wear, lingerie, accessories, and more. “I want Phatz to become an empire,” he declares. His vision is to create a one-stop shop for all fashion needs, offering unique and original designs that push creative boundaries.

The upcoming launch of his shoe line is another exciting chapter in his journey. With innovative tools and patterns, he’s crafting designs that blend trends with his signature creativity. “It gives me the tools to switch up colors, styles, and designs,” he explains, ensuring his shoe line will stand out in the market.

        Achievements and Giving Back

Phatz’s accolades, including “Atl Hottest Designer” and “Fashion Boutique of the Year,” are a testament to his hard work and dedication. But his proudest achievement lies in his nonprofit, the Phatz Foundation. Rooted in his own struggles as a newcomer in the fashion industry, the foundation empowers underprivileged youth and supports various causes. “I want to help empower them and give them a sense of ‘I am someone,’” he says, reflecting his commitment to making a difference.

The annual Phatz Honors Giveback Awards is a unique initiative that celebrates unsung heroes. He recalls two memorable recipients: a caregiver who selflessly dedicated her life to her husband and a hardworking friend whose contributions to fashion and film were finally recognized.

        Looking Ahead

Phatz is gearing up for his exclusive New York Fashion Week show in Fall 2024, a milestone that will solidify his place among the world’s top designers. “They will get an experience, more than a regular show,” he promises, aiming to leave a lasting impression on attendees.

His third book, part of a trilogy, will detail his journey in the fashion industry, education, and life. “I want to motivate and inspire others,” he shares, emphasizing the importance of perseverance and finding the silver lining in every challenge.

Long-term, Phatz envisions his brand becoming as iconic as Gucci, Ralph Lauren, and Vera Wang. “I want Phatz to ring bells when mentioned,” he says, aspiring to leave a legacy for his family and future generations.

        Personal Insights and Advice

Balancing his fashion empire, education, and philanthropy is no easy feat, but Phatz finds motivation in the simple act of waking up each day. “We’re not guaranteed that, so when you do, you’re supposed to make the next day better than the day before,” he says. His advice to aspiring designers is straightforward: “Never give up, always put your all into your work, and never be afraid to invest in yourself.”

If given the chance, he would love to collaborate with Dior or Chanel, admiring their contributions to fashion and their focus on empowering women of all sizes. For Phatz, fashion is more than clothing—it’s empowerment. “I love to make an outfit for someone and see their confidence shoot sky high,” he says, describing the transformative power of his designs.

Phatz’s journey is a testament to resilience, creativity, and the pursuit of excellence. From humble beginnings to international acclaim, he continues to inspire and uplift through his work, leaving an indelible mark on the fashion world.

          Butter Knife Shawty

Cooking Up Success: Butter Knife Shawty BBQ’s Fusion of Music and Barbecue

Born and raised in Decatur, also known as Scottdale, Georgia, my journey began in the heart of the South, surrounded by the warmth of family and the rich traditions of Southern culture. It was here, alongside my grandfather, that I discovered my passion for barbecue. My grandfather, a true BBQ enthusiast, passed down his love for the craft, teaching me everything from selecting the finest cuts of meat to mastering the art of the perfect smoke. His passion was contagious, and those lessons became the foundation of my journey to becoming one of the best pitmasters in Atlanta and beyond.

Cooking with my grandfather was more than just learning a skill—it was an immersion into the heart of what makes Southern traditions so special. Every dish carried a story, every flavor a memory, and it was through these moments that I developed a deep appreciation for the culture and history of Georgia barbecue.

The Roots of Music and BBQ Fusion

Music has been a part of my life since I was six years old. I dreamed of being a star like Michael Jackson and admired the iconic presence of Barry White, especially his unforgettable beard. Growing up, my love for music grew alongside my passion for cooking. When I moved to Rockdale County during my teenage years, I found myself surrounded by a vibrant music scene that shaped my creative journey. It was here that I met my mentor and producer, DJ Smoove, who groomed me into the talented rapper I am today.

Balancing my love for music and BBQ has always been about finding harmony between these two passions. They are deeply intertwined, with the soulful sounds of the South inspiring both my music and my BBQ creations. Whether I’m crafting a new track or developing a new BBQ recipe, the process is rooted in storytelling and connecting with people on an emotional level.

          Journey and Inspirations

My journey has been shaped by incredible inspirations—musically, legends like Michael Jackson and Barry White have guided my sound, while my culinary roots are firmly planted in my grandfather’s teachings and the rich BBQ culture of Georgia. The moment I realized I could combine my two passions into a unique brand was when I saw how both music and BBQ brought people together. They created unforgettable experiences, blending flavors and melodies into something truly special.

Of course, the road hasn’t always been easy. Pursuing both music and BBQ has come with its challenges, but perseverance and a supportive community have helped me overcome them. These experiences have only strengthened my resolve and deepened my love for what I do.

          Sharing My Passions on YouTube

My YouTube channel is a space where I bring my passions to life for a wider audience. Viewers can expect a mix of music performances, BBQ tutorials, and behind-the-scenes glimpses into my creative process. One of my favorite videos is a BBQ recipe I dedicated to my grandfather—it’s a heartfelt tribute to the man who inspired my journey.

Connecting with my audience is all about authenticity. Through music and BBQ, I share what I love and invite others to join me on this flavorful and soulful adventure.

          Celebrating Georgia’s Culture and Legacy

Georgia’s rich culture is woven into everything I create. From the local spices in my BBQ rubs to the melodies in my songs, the essence of Georgia is always present. It’s a celebration of the traditions and flavors that make the South so unique.

Looking Ahead: Future Plans and Goals

The future is bright for Butter Knife Shawty BBQ. I’m thrilled to announce my upcoming event, BBQ Love Fest, on May 3 in Tampa, Florida. There, I’ll be serving up some of my signature Georgia barbecue and performing my single, “Run From It.” I also have plans to bring my music and BBQ to more live events and festivals, sharing my passions with even more people.

          A Personal Touch

If I could cook a BBQ dish for any musician, past or present, it would be Michael Jackson. His influence on my music is profound, and sharing my culinary creations with him would be an honor. As for a present-day musician, I’d love to cook for Teddy Swims. Being from Rockdale County, he knows good country boy BBQ, and I think he’d appreciate the flavors and traditions that go into my dishes.

To anyone looking to pursue their passions, whether it’s music, cooking, or both, my advice is simple: stay true to yourself and never give up on your dreams. Lastly, one thing my fans might not know about me is that every dish I create is a tribute to my family and the Southern traditions that shaped me.

With Butter Knife Shawty BBQ, every beat and every bite is a celebration of passion, creativity, and the rich culture of Georgia.
